MARTA CARRIEDO: COOL MMETS CASUAL
The influencer and entrepreneur Marta Carriedo shares her vision of her second home, United States; her brand and the evolution of her personal style.
The clear blue sky. The autumnal cold. The ocean’s breeze. The Formentera light. And the most natural Marta Carriedo. Living between L.A and Madrid, Marta has been immersed in a whirlwind of experiences and projects with long flights between Spain and the U.S as a constant. Marta assures that even though her home will always be Madrid –the city that watched her grow up–, L.A.’s atmosphere invites her to take things easy. “Life there is way slower. I have more time to do everything, to eat well, to do my job and take pictures without being in a rush, to be with my friends –she points out–. More time for me to go to the beach, to read. Here it’s impossible. Here it’s madness, all day running around, being late to everything…”.
But the Pacific ocean, the lifestyle, the sun and the vast Californian beaches aren’t the only elements that have made Marta fall in love with the U.S. The Americans’ will to have initiative is what attracts her the most about a culture that rewards effort and hard work. “What I like the most is that they’re entrepreneurs. They don’t care if they launch something and it fails, they start something new and if it goes wrong they start something else”, she explains.
“What I like the most [about Americans] is that they’re entrepreneurs. They don’t care if they launch something and it fails, they start something new and if it goes wrong they start something else”.
“I decided to do it because I couldn’t find jewellery pieces that were my style, very tiny pieces that I can relate to, that’s why my jewellery has those positive messages”.
It is precisely through relentless work and by never losing her smile how Marta has been crossing off dreams of her list. She has been a collaborator in different TV programs, she has a blog, a YouTube channel and an Instagram account with more than 500.000 followers. Since she loves to embark herself in several projects, Marta decided to jump in the entrepreneurship train that she admires so much and founded Marta Carriedo Collection, a brand based on her personal style that offers costume jewellery, glass bottles and candles, and in which she works side by side with her sister. “I decided to do it because I love jewellery and I couldn’t find jewellery pieces that were my style, very tiny pieces that I can relate to, that’s why my jewellery has those positive messages”, she states. “It’s a very beautiful project and I was lucky to count with the help of Yanes for the design of the pieces, which in my opinion is the best jewellery brand in Spain”.
Although Marta doesn’t like to classify her style, she admits that since she’s been living in America she has drawn inspiration from the sporty and casual spirit of the people there. “Everyone there wears sport pants or crop tops. They wear sport tops during the day underneath a blazer and during the night with a leather jacket, and I love it”, she affirms. “They wear sneakers at all times, you can perfectly go out to any club in sneakers there… I wear them tons!”. While she used to wear ballet pumps or moccasins before, in a more classic style, now she doesn’t conceive a day without her sneakers, with the exception of the ‘ugly sneakers’, a trend that she says will never like no matter how popular it gets.
In her closet we’ll always find jeans, white and striped tshirts, biker-style jackets and knitted or wool oversized sweaters. As a reflection of her personality and charisma, Marta loves midi-length skirts, sweatshirt dresses and every clothing item that provides comfort and authenticity in equal amount. Her weakness? The white-black combo: “I think the white-black trend is always infallible, at night black always gets it right and during the day the trend works as a white tshirt and black jeans duo”.
The management of her brand, her social media, the attendance to events and shootings keep Marta’s schedule so busy that she only finds peace… when she sleeps! “You’re not going to believe me but my only real moment of peace is when I sleep, the only one. Or when I’m on a plane, where even if there’s wifi in many of them I try to read and watch TV shows because otherwise it’s impossible to switch off”, she admits. When she’s in Madrid she tries to squeeze in some excercises with her personal trainer and tries to eat healthy. That’s how she finds balance. “I used to eat very badly, horrible, and even though I obviously still like a burger with fries, I try to include healthy food in my diet like quinoa, different types of tea or açai, which I love”, she points out.
In spite of filling her backpack with projects, Marta’s enthusiasm is unstoppable and among her last adventures there’s her book release. With the date and the title still to be determined, Marta’s autobiography will be an unfiltered reflection of her career. From the reason why she changed economics for fashion to her values, her negative and positive life experiences and her take on what’s behind the scenes in the fashion world, Marta’s literary debut is extremely promising. We can’t wait!
