PATRICIA SAÑES: URBAN FRENZY

We talked to Patricia Sañes over brunch about her essential date plans in Madrid, her key style pieces and in what ways the fashion industry surprises her.

The hectic rhythm of the capital with its ups and downs and its particular madness always usesthe stick and the carrot. Traffic and impossible planners? Yes. But it also gives street style looks to die for, afterwork plans and brunch menus that leave us salivating for a week. The journalist and influencer, Patricia Sañes, admits that every time she travels from Barcelona, where she lives, to Madrid, she’s in her element. “I’m crazy about Madrid. I’ve never experienced the energy that Madrid has anywhere else in the world”, she comments. “Barcelona is cool in terms of life quality, but we’re very much the stay-at-home type, we go to the sea or the mountain on the weekends, so there’s not much urban life in Barcelona over the weekend”.

“I like to keep up with trends and, above all, what I enjoy the most is to differentiate myself from others through fashion”.

“The frenzy of fashion week, for example, is not that visible in social media, the work that goes behind every photo, behind every content, still fascinates me”.

Madrid is her city of temptation and the guilty pleasures. “I love to go out and have some beers with my best friend in Chamberí. Ponzano street, where there’s bar after bar, it’s amazing!”, she affirms. “I also love to get los ton the streets of Barrio de las Letras. There’s a super small and not very well-known place that makes homemade pizzas, very close to Plaza de Santa Ana, I don’t remember its name, and we always love to go there for a margarita pizza”.

Patricia’s energy, optimism and effortlessness makes it seem like rocking daring outfits is an innate gift of hers. “It’s a cliché to say that my style is eclectic but it’s true. I like wearing things that reflect how I am, and since I am a lot of contradictory things, I like to often wear pieces that clash, always in a sort of balance, and other times I like them to match”, she explains. Suits that have co-ord prints are, besides the star trend this season, a second skin for Patricia due to their versatility when it comes to that ‘what do I wear?’ morning situation. “I like to keep up with trends and, above all, what I enjoy the most is to differentiate myself from others through fashion”, she confesses. “I’ve always been obsessed since i was a kid with differentiate myself, so fashion for me is a lenguage, a nice tool to show our personality, and since I find what’s politically correct very boring…”.

Fashion is about surprising and breaking the rules, and Patricia knows all about it. Her style is quite the statement-making type and her honest interpretation of fashion is the ultimate breeze of fresh air. What’s conventional gets left behind very easily and Patricia is all about reinventing herself. Her only ‘I would never’? A pair of stilettos. “Maybe if I see someone wearing them I like them but if I wear them I think they look too corny. I usually like the flat-shoe look, I think it’s way more chic, I would only wear heels if they’re the squared type. But fashion invites to choose flat options like sneakers”.

Although Patricia is fully immersed in the fashion industry, both due to her influencer side and her website coolhunterdiary.com, she admits that the mad fashion world keeps surprising her. “The frenzy of fashion week, for example, is not that visible in social media, the work that goes behind every photo, behind every content, still fascinates me. It’s a lot of work and it looks like you can have it with just a click”, she states.

The fashion revolution and what it entails shocks her and wins her over equally, especially because, she says, now she has her own community. “Nowadays us influencers, thanks to the community that follows us, can have a voice to share our opinion, connect with our followers… so I love to have my own little platform to talk about stuff”, she tells. “Now I talk about fashion, tomorrow I don’t what will it be… But what I’ve always loved is communication so now I have my own virtual community to communicate, express myself and talk to them. And that’s what I like the most”.
